The Light Angel and the Light Miner are traditional Erzgebirge Figurines, especially during the mining period they became of importance. For the miner underground, light was indispensable. The longing of the miners for the light was especially great at Christmas time. In the 16th and 17th centuries, when mining was still the main source of income for the people of the Ore Mountains, the lack of light and the danger in the mines were central in their lives. The Light of the Light Angels and Miners should point the way home and at the same time symbolize happiness and protection. The figural angels represented the protective power of heaven, while the wooden miners were the likenesses of the men who risked their lives in the mines day after day. These two light figures even found a permanent place as a pair on the altar in the church and symbolically asked for God’s protection.
In the 1990s, these figures were reissued by the Müller family and since then have shone in the glow of wax candles every year at Christmas time. Since 1899 The Müller Company, located in the famous Toy Village Seiffen in the Erzgebirge, has manufactured its unique Christmas decorations.
All figures are lovingly handcrafted from high quality woods and paints. The production in small quantaties guarantees quality at a high level and is characterized by individuality. Even the smallest parts are made with hand selected woods and high quality fabrics.
