The Grünhainichener Engel® from Wendt & Kühn are quite unique. They enchant with their shape, their expression and their charm. They each have eleven white dots on their green wings – their world-famous trademark.
It is the pre-Christmas period in 1922 – a man from Lippersdorf asks the ladies Wendt and Kühn to have his candlestick angel restored. Grete and Olly Wendt were so impressed by this angel that as early as 1923 angels of a similar basic shape were created, but in Olly Wendt’s own painting, in which her Russian roots can be seen again and again.
Wendt & Kühn reissued two of them in 2019. The slender angels get their characteristics from their so-called dock shape. This is rather atypical for the figures by Wendt & Kühn, as it was usually avoided by turning the shapes cut diagonally to the axis and adding them back in an offset manner. The painting is at least as special as the shape – the graphic ornaments as well as the detailed tendril and flower patterns require a lot of skill and a great deal of talent.
